    How to use it

iPhone Photos to JPG in 3 steps

    1. 1

On your iPhone, tap Choose files, then Photo Library, and select the photos you want as JPG.

    2. 2

They convert on the phone in a few seconds. Leave quality at 88 or switch to PNG if you need lossless.

    3. 3

Tap Save, then Save Image in the Share sheet to put the JPGs into Photos.

Convert on the phone, skip the computer

Most HEIC advice assumes you have a computer handy. But often you just need a JPG right now: a form on your phone wants one, or someone on Windows asked for “the photo, not that weird file”. This page runs in Safari on your iPhone and does the conversion on the phone’s own processor. Nothing is uploaded, which also means it works on patchy mobile data.

    Step by step in Safari

    1. Open this page in Safari.
    2. Tap Choose files. iOS offers Photo Library, Take Photo and Choose File. Pick Photo Library to select from your camera roll, or Choose File for HEICs in the Files app.
    3. Select one photo or dozens, then tap Add.
    4. Each photo converts on the phone, usually in a second or two.
    5. Tap Save. The Share sheet opens; tap Save Image (or Save Images for several) and the JPGs land in Photos.

You’ll now have both versions in your library. Delete the HEIC originals if you don’t need them, though they’re the higher-quality, smaller copy.

Converting vs changing the camera setting

There’s also a “never deal with this again” option. Which is right depends on what you need:

Convert here Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible
Affects existing photos Yes, the ones you pick No
Affects future photos No Yes, all of them
Storage used Only what you convert Roughly double for new photos
Keeps HEIC’s 10-bit colour Yes, the original stays No, for new photos
Effort A few taps each time Once

A middle route: keep shooting HEIC and use Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic, which converts when you copy photos over a cable. Our guide to iPhone camera settings explains each switch.

A note on very large photos

Newer iPhones can shoot 48 MP photos. Safari caps how big an image a web page can work with, so on iPhone and iPad these may be scaled to about 16 MP during conversion. That’s still plenty for screens and most prints. For full-resolution 48 MP JPGs, run the same files through HEIC to JPG on a computer.

    Make it one tap away

In Safari, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. The converter then opens like an app and works offline, handy when you’re somewhere with no signal and a form that refuses HEIC.

    FAQ

    Questions, answered

How do I convert a photo to JPG on my iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, pick the photo from your library, and tap Save when it's done. The JPG goes back into Photos through the Share sheet.

Do I need to install an app?

No. It's a web page. You can add it to your Home Screen from the Share sheet if you want it to feel like an app, and it works offline after the first visit.

Why does my iPhone show HEIC photos as JPG when I email them?

iOS often converts photos automatically when you share them to apps that might not handle HEIC. That's why the problem tends to appear on computers and websites rather than on the phone itself.

Can I convert lots of iPhone photos at once?

Yes. Select as many as you like. The phone converts one or two at a time to keep Safari stable, so a big batch just takes a little longer.

Will the JPG lose the photo's date?

No. The date and camera details are kept, so the JPG sits in the right place in Photos. GPS location is removed by default.

Why is my converted photo smaller in pixels than the original?

Safari limits how large an image a web page can handle. Very large photos, such as 48 MP shots, may be scaled to about 16 MP on iPhone and iPad. Regular 12 MP photos convert at full size.

How do I make my iPhone take JPG photos instead of HEIC?

Go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG from then on; existing ones stay HEIC.
