Why “I hate HEIC”
HEIC is great technology. Compatibility is the annoying part.
Your iPhone saves photos as HEIC because it’s half the size of JPG at the same quality. Lovely, until you try to open one on Windows, upload it to a form, or email it to someone who just sees an error.
- ~50%
- smaller than JPG. Why Apple uses it.
- 2017
- the year iPhones switched. Plenty of software still hasn’t caught up.
- 0 bytes
- of your photos sent to us. Ever.
How it works
Your photos never touch a server.
Most “free converters” upload your camera roll to someone else’s computer. We ship the converter to yours instead. It runs in your browser with WebAssembly, so it’s fast, private and still works in airplane mode.

Questions, answered
Is I Hate HEIC really free?
Yes. Every tool is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Because the work happens on your device, it costs us almost nothing to run.
Do you upload or store my photos?
No. Photos are processed inside your browser and never sent anywhere. There is no server that receives them, so there is nothing to store, leak or delete.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Drop your HEIC files into the box at the top of this page, or tap Choose files. They convert to JPG instantly, and you can download them one by one or as a single ZIP.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser: Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. On iPhone you can save results straight back to Photos.
Can I convert lots of photos at once?
Yes. Drop hundreds of files or a whole folder. They’re processed in parallel on your CPU, and you can pause, retry failures and download everything as one ZIP.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the converter is cached on your device. You can even install it as an app from your browser menu.
Still hate HEIC?
